The Life and Times of Sonja Fowler

Without writing my biography here, a medical timeline is probably most appropriate for telling about my life to this present moment. Other biographical facts will appear in blog posts as points of reference in relaying history, stories, lessons and thoughts in general.

At first glance, the timeline of my story does not appear to be heading in the happily-ever-after direction. It is decorated with what looks like a life of inconvenience, trial and frustration. At best, it looks to be a life no one would sign up to live. However, each gap in time represents times of growth and preparation for the next mark on the timeline. Medical issues have been a large part of my life. But really it's the times in between the markers that have enriched me. The people I've met along the way, the opportunities, the experiences and even other challenges, along with my faith, are what fuels me toward the next mark. I believe that the health encounters of my life are merely circumstances in which I live. They affect my life, but they do not define who I am. They are only some of the tools that are shaping me into the person I am. For those who know me, I hope you find yourself somewhere as part of these experiences, relating to them, or having been an influence in the things I've learned through them. For those who don't know me, maybe I will have the opportunity to get to know you as you read and share.

The Name Explained

Plumbline Central- You may wonder what the name is all about (or you may not). So lets get that out of the way and hopefully you'll see where I'm coming from! The term Central in the name is fairly simple. It implies a hub or location to gather info. In the case of this blog, the information will probably be very diverse but is centered around medical experiences, the journey through it all, and the need for a plumb line.
A plumb line, is a cord with a lead weight used in the building of structures to make sure they are vertical. It is a standard for building the rest of the structure. Although life is about growing our physical structure, it's also about growing or constructing our whole being. There is no question that I have the need for a plumb line. I need something to steady me as I navigate my way through life, something to help me gain and keep perspective, and something to offer stability.God is my plumb line. He is everything I need whether times are good, or not so good, whether things seem clear or the fog has rolled in and uncertainty is at its height. He sets the standard for me. He makes my path straight and helps me determine when I have veered away from my purpose. My faith as a Christ follower is really all of what defines me. And my need for a plumb line is what my life is all about.

About This Blog

This blog was born out of a portion of my life story that involves what it's like to live with some health issues that stem from juvenile diabetes. For me, it includes heart issues and life in the kidney transplant lane. This is an opportunity for me to chronicle life along the way in the midst of these circumstances. While it will include facts and updates, it will mostly include life experiences . The randomness, unpredictability, and variety of life may lead to some random posts. I don't really know what it will look like but I assure you it will include more than solely transplant stuff. My disclaimer is this: this blog is not intended to be a professionally written publication. So, if you are looking for that I can save you some time by saying stop now. You will be disappointed. It is simply me, being me. However, for those who choose to read, my hope is that you will find it to be conversational, something that is authentic and something that resonates with you in some way. The purpose of this blog is simple. As I walk the road of my life's journey, I hope that you will receive encouragement and the courage to walk yours, whatever it may be and wherever it leads. For me, life is an adventure to be lived not some dress rehearsal to be practiced. So, consider this an invitation to come along and join me for the ride and feel free to correspond with your thoughts, experiences, stories and comments!
